Can I repair my own LCD TV backlight inverter?
The picture on my 26" Vizio HDTV went out a few days ago, and I've been struggling to find out what it is. After researching, trial and error, and taking it apart, I found out that it's the backlight inverter board. Ordering a new one through eBay is about $60, which isn't bad, but there's an electronics shop five blocks away from me. Is there any chance the board can be repaired, like maybe re-soldered?
When I turn on the TV, the picture lights up for a second, then goes out, and the sound works great, and if you hold a flashlight to the screen, you can see the image, so I know it's definitely worth fixing since this part is so easy to get to. Can anyone tell me if the board is able to be fixed?
There's a good chance the board can be repaired but it would probably cost more than $60. I would get at least $75 in my shop if I successfully restored it to operation. There's also a chance that a shorted backlight bulb(s) may have caused the board problem which would be major in most cases.
These types of repairs are usually best accomplished by professionals.
