In this age of going digital we store lots of information. It is more common for us to keep a larger variety of information than we have in years past. When this process of digital storage started we stored only small, simple types of data such as plain text or word processing documents. But now as advancements are made we are beginning to save things like music and video collections. Our pictures have also found their way from film to being digital and being stored on hard drives and other removable media.
We also find ourselves having to carry our data and files with us. Like many college students you may have a vast list of MP3's stored on your computer that you want to listen to while you're at home for break. In the past we were forced to save files on an ancient storage device like a floppy disk that only held up to 1.44 MB of memory. A storage device that small would probably only transport a portion of your songs. Since you probably have much more to carry with you then that, there are lots of higher-capacity digital devices available.
Fortunately for us, the USB flash drive had been developed. These USB gadgets are small and light, and it boasts a large capacity. Unlike other high-capacity media like tape and memory cards, a USB flash drive does not require a separate drive or reader. You just plug the whole thing into an available USB port, and you’re done. Since all new computers these days have at least a couple of these ports, you can use a USB flash drive on any modern computer.
Another cool thing about USB flash drives is that there are plenty of designs to choose from. You can find USB flash drives that double as key chains, flashlights, pendants, and other cool stuff. For the fashionistas, there is the 1GB leather USB flash drive bracelet. It is a very stylish bracelet that can be worn anywhere and can hold 1GB of data. That’s equivalent to more than 150 MP3 songs. Now, who said geeks couldn’t be fashionable?
Floppy Drive?
What EXACTLY is a Floppy Drive? If you don't have this, can you still make copies, to CD's, of anything such as desktop folders you have created to save maybe resumes, music that was downloaded, things like that? I hate to sound stupid, but is this a necessity to making copies (even backing up your work) onto a CD?
Yes, floppies are outdated. But when your in a jam, trying to reinstall the OS, or you computer is completely f'ed up, a good set of startup disks can be your best friend. Yes, you can do anything you ask about w/o a floppy.
