Here are 15 simple pointers from the experts and experienced users on how to take care of your laptop PC, as prevention is always much better than cure. Your portable laptop takes care of so many things in your life, attempt to take care of your portable computer, too and prevent having to have a laptop hard drive recovery.
Keep foods away. It is not the food per se that could harm your portable laptop. It's the fact that food fragments attract bugs that might damage your laptop's internal circuitry.
Keep liquids away. As alluring as a large cup of java may be to keep beside your working mate, NEVER do so. A careless spill or a similarly slipshod office mate's bump, may spill that coffee over your portable laptop and cause internal damage and electric injury.
Do not eat while you work on your portable computer and don't work on your laptop while you eat. Your fingers will get lined with crumbs which should inevitably lead you to the same condition as in points 1 and 2.
Have clean hands before laying them on your portable. Sweat and grime on your fingertips will accelerate the wear-and-tear of your keypad coating. Some even recommend rubbing your hands with alcohol to remove sweat, grease and muck.
Use a keypad protector. This is that soft, rubberized transparent sheet that you can cover over your keypad. This could eliminate the necessity to wash hands before working.
Hold and lift your portable computer by its base and never by its screen. The obvious reason is to protect the hinges.
Insert drives and accessories into their proper slots, cautiously and at their proper angles.
Avoid temperature fluctuations (acute hots and colds) which could cause condensation of air inside the laptop.
Wait 15 minutes till the laptop computer reaches room temperature before powering up this will help deal with point 8.
Have it cleaned by a specialist once or more a year to get rid of dust which might congest the vent and cause overheating.
Keep your laptop computer cool. Use in a well-ventilated area. Use external coolers with fans to cool the motherboard.
Clean around the exhaust fan screen. Little need for fancy cleaning items here. An old toothbrush is fine.
Never use your laptop PC on the bed. The fan will suck in the dust and may then be adequately plugged up and cause overheating.
Use the laptop on a leveled surface. If you ever need to work outside, bring a laptop computer table.
Constantly update both your antivirus software and OS (e.g. Windows Update). Doing all of the above will be in vain if your laptop gets infected by a virus or Trojan.
