LED-backlit LCD TV versus a regular LCD TV
LED backlit LCD TVs are the latest thing in the entertainment world. Why would you want one of these TVs in your home? Is it something completely new or is it just the same type of LCD TV that we are used to with some modifications? With all the LCD TV deals you can find right now, is it really worth it to get an LED TV?
A traditional LCD TV does not use the same amount of light emitting diodes or LEDs as the LED-backlit LCD TV. LCD stands for liquid crystal display and is the new "it" TV to have. Traditional LCD TVs normally mainly use cold cathode fluorescent lamps or CCFLs for the backlighting. The new LED-backlit LCD TVs use more of the light emitting diode for the backlight.
One of the main challenges with the light emitting diode is the fact that it is too big for pixels on a television screen. So if someone tells you that the equipment is an LED TV, it is never going to be a true one and is likely to have a combination of other technology as well. Currently, one of the few places you would find a true LED TV would be at the sports stadium.
The main difference that exists between the two TVs is the fact that there is a greater degree of contrast with the LED LCD TV.. The images are clearer and that is great for the viewers who can see the contrast between a shadow and a background. Overall, the viewed would enjoy a sharper resolution compared to a traditional LCD TV.
One of the things that generally makes people feel good about themselves about the LED TV is that there is a forty percent reduction in the amount of electricity that is used to power the units. So there is a definite advantage for this product environmentally. There are various other advantages of an LED-backlit LCD TV to compared to a traditional LCD TV, including a wider range of colors, higher refresh frequency, and an even slimmer and lighter TV.
The television has come along way and the LED TV is just the latest wave in the process. Sony started the revolution and the LED TV is now here to stay. Now we can enjoy lighter, thinner, and more environmentally friendly TVs with an even greater viewing quality. If you look around, you can even find some great deals on these new cheap LED TV on the various bargains websites.
What's the difference of an "HD Ready" LCD TV to a "Full HD" LCD TV?
I'm buying a Samsung LCD TV. I know that the HD Ready LCD TV is 1080p while the full HD LCD TV is 1080i, what's the difference? By the way, the TV i'm buying is 32" only.
In the U.S. at least, "HD Ready" was applied to sets that were sold here up until about 2 - 3 years ago. They had no tuner, but they were "ready for HD" otherwise if you provided an outboard signal source, like a satellite box or cable box.
Sets sold in the U.S. in the past couple of years are not in that category--they all have at least a digital tuner, and most also have an analog tuner, useful with basic cable. Some also have a QAM tuner, for limited digital channels without a cable box.
So if you're buying an "HD Ready" set, you'll need some external signal source for it--cable box, satellite box, auxiliary tuner, DVD player, or a game box.
