I just bought a new HP laptop (2000z) and the WIFI is not working properly. Any good advice?
The WIFI will connect but it is slow when connecting to pages using Internet explorer 7 (or sometimes does not connect at all). I also tried firefox. My desktop is on the same network (and is WIFI) and does not have this problem. I tried disabling many vista security features but that helped little. The WIFI component is a 802.11b/g. Sometimes WIFI works good but it generaly causes more of a hassle than anything. My friend brought over his Dell XPS and it connected with no problems. What are my options to fix this problem?
Specs. of my laptop are:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
- AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-50(1.6GHz/512KB)
- 14.1 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150
- 2GB 2 Dimm
- 60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- 802.11b/g WLAN
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
- System Recovery DVD w/Windows Vista Home Basi
Are you sure that your machine is connecting to the same network that your desktop is? It's entirely possible (especially if your own, private network has a WEP/WPA key on it) that the system is defaulting to a neighboring signal. Also, are you using the Windows XP wireless networking client or a different program?
If all else fails, disassemble the panel at the bottom that hides your wireless pci card, and check to see if the two antenna diplodes are still firmly seated.
